Essential to operations

The Austrian NeuroCloud (ANC) maintains full independence in strategic and operational decision-making regarding the development and evolution of its services. The ANC is operated by a Core Team of researchers, data stewards, and system administrators who are responsible for the repository’s development, curation, and day-to-day operations. All decisions are made by the ANC Core Team, in accordance with internal policies and governance procedures (see R05 for details). This autonomy ensures that the platform remains closely aligned with the needs of its designated community while preserving flexibility in responding to emerging scientific and technical challenges.

Hosting and Infrastructure Support¶

The ANC operates on its own dedicated hardware infrastructure, physically hosted within the IT environment of the University of Salzburg. The infrastructure-level support is provided by the Salzburg Collaborative Computing (SCC), which ensures hosting of hardware and core software components, secure data storage, including redundancy and disaster recovery, automated backups, server maintenance, and IT security. All operational control, configuration, data validation, and software updates are managed internally by the ANC Core Team.

Legal Advisement¶

Legal advisement is provided through two main channels:

The Data Protection Officer of the University of Salzburg, who ensures compliance with Austrian and European data protection laws (e.g., Austrian Research Organization Act (FOG), GDPR).

Legal scholars from the Department of Civil Law, involved via the Digital Neuroscience Initiative Project, offer expert consultation on the ANC legal framework, including but not limited to licensing, terms of use, and transfer and license agreement.

These relationships are advisory in nature. The ANC Core Team evaluates and integrates all legal recommendations internally and retains sole authority over legal policy decisions related to repository operations.

No Outsourcing of Core Functions¶

The ANC does not outsource any repository functions related to data or metadata curation, access, or preservation. No commercial vendors are involved in the stewardship, dissemination, or integrity assurance of datasets. This includes both short-term operations and long-term preservation responsibilities.
