Update dataset¶

Dataset updates in the ANC are managed through the GitLab issue and merge request workflow. This ensures that requested changes are documented, reviewed, and traceable before they become part of the main dataset version.

By default, only Data Stewards can merge changes into the main branch of a dataset repository. Dataset contributors can request changes by opening an issue, creating a merge request, and describing the intended update. Changes can then be prepared either remotely in GitLab using VS Code in the browser, or locally on your computer.

This section describes the basic merge request workflow and the two available options for editing dataset files.
